Class Guidelines
- Please allow yourself 5-10 minutes before class to quietly sign and settle in, entering class late can be very disruptive to the class and participants.
- Please wait quietly in the waiting area, this will help to keep a calm atmosphere and sets the intention of bringing your awareness inward for your practice.
- If arriving late, please wait quietly until after the opening meditation to make your space and unroll your mat quietly.
- Remove shoes before entering the practice area; we practice in our bare feet.
- Please have your own yoga mat. We do have rental mats and mats for purchase available to you if you should need. You may also choose to bring a small hand towel, water, and your own yoga props if desired. Yoga/Pilates props and equipment are provided, and beverages are available for purchase.
- Please leave your cell phones in your car or remember to turn them off or in silent/airplane mode.
- Wear comfortable exercise clothing.
- Come to practice with an empty stomach (unless a specific condition prevents this).
- No food or chewing gum during classes or in studio area.
- Please keep water bottles off the practice floor. We take extra special care of our mat flooring, and spilled water doesn’t help.
- Freshen up prior to class to make class a pleasant experience for everyone. Refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, or strong essential oils.
- Ask questions about anything that is not clear to you. You may ask during class when appropriate or after class.
- Stay for the entire class. If you need to leave early, tell the teacher beforehand and exit before the final relaxation.
- Let go of the competitive or judgmental mind-set. In yoga we are not creating something for others to look at. As we perform the various asanas we observe what we are doing and how we are doing it. We do it only to work on ourselves. The purpose is to calm the mind, open the heart, and stimulate our spiritual evolution.
- Be kind and loving to yourself by accepting where you are. Allow your practice to be one that is nourishing for your body, your mind, and your heart. Rest and modify when you need. Do what you can, with what you have, with where you are and be open to what unfolds.
- Finally, most classes finish with the gesture and saying Namaste. This means: the light and universal oneness in me honors the light and universal oneness in you. I honor the place in you in which is of love, of truth, of light, and of peace. When you are in that place in you and I am in that place in me, we are one.
Thank you for being thoughtful and conscientious participants! Namaste. : )
